Gwen Stefani Angers & Offends Malaysian Muslims

Gwen Stefani could be forced to cancel her Malaysian show after a Muslim group branded her “indecent” and “obscene”.

The singer, who is currently on the road with her ‘Sweet Escape‘ tour, is due to perform in Kuala Lumpur next month but the National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students want the concert scrapped because Gwen’s image offends Islamic beliefs.

Mohamad Hilmi Ramli said: “Her video clips promoting the event are too obscene. We want the organizers to cancel the concert, failing which we will ask the authorities to intervene.”

Ramli also slammed Malaysian mobile phone company Maxis Communications for promoting Gwen’s concert and exposing young Malaysians to “moral decay”.

He fumed: “Maxis has been staging a series of foreign acts to make a profit and to expose our young generation to things such as moral decay.”

Gwen’s Kuala Lumpur show is due to take place at the Stadium Putra on August 21.

The ‘Hollaback Girl’ singer will also perform in Australia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, China and Hawaii before taking her tour to Europe.

Chen Hao Most Beautiful Woman in China

Chen Hao Mainland actress Chen Hao has been chosen as the most beautiful woman in China in an online poll featuring more than one million voters.

The actress shot to fame for her role in TV series “Pink Ladies”, which was adapted from Taiwan cartoonist Zhu Deyong’s comic book. Chen Hao played one of the leading roles in “Pink Ladies” as a sexy and adorable lady that manipulates the guys. The drama later turned out to be a super hit all across Asia’s Chinese community.

Other identities in the top 10 included Yang Lan, a TV hostess and entrepreneur, Annie Yi, a Taiwan singer and actress, and Yu Dan, a professor and media scholar.

The poll began in April and initially featured 100 candidates from all circles of life.

Voters then reduced the list to 50, based on criteria including their reputations, achievements, personalities and contributions to the society, the organizer said.

Over one million people attended the online poll conducted on Sina.com, the web site reported. The result was determined according to the public votes and the opinions of the jury team.

Potter Star Emma Watson Voted ‘Britain’s Greatest Female Ambassador’

Emma Watson Harry Potter star Emma Watson is the one most Brits believe is their country’s ‘Greatest Female Ambassador’.

The 17-year old, who plays the muggle-born witch Hermione Granger in the hit movie adaptations of the Harry Potter novels, has beat out the likes of older, and more well known faces such as Kate Moss, Keira Knightley and Victoria Beckham.

The poll was conducted by Top of the Pops magazine, and editor Peter Hart said that it was Watson’s combination of beauty and brains that were the qualities that sealed the deal.

Coming in close on Hermione’s heels in second place was Oscar nominee Keira Knightley, followed by singer Lily Allen in third spot.

Fourth place on the list went to pregnant singer Charlotte Church.

Rounding off the top five was another pregnant beauty, former glamour model Jordan.

And, while Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice only managed eighth place, Kate Moss and Girls Aloud’s Sarah Harding found themselves a the bottom of the poll.Chinadaily.com.cn

Kate Hudson has date with Cook in "Bachelor’

Kate Hudson Kate Hudson is set to star opposite Dane Cook in the comedy “Bachelor No. 2.”

Cook plays a man hired to take girls out on terrible dates to prompt them to return to boyfriends they left. Conflict ensues when he offers his services to his best friend and falls for the girl, played by Hudson.

Production is slated to begin in August in Boston, with Howard Deutch directing from Jordan Cahan’s screenplay. A third-quarter 2008 release is planned via Lionsgate.

Hudson was in theaters last year with “You, Me and Dupree.” She stars opposite Matthew McConaughey in “Fool’s Gold,” set for a February 2008 release. Cook’s recent credits include “Employee of the Month” and “Mr. Brooks.” [chinadaily]

"Super Girl" Shang Wenjie Launches First EP

Shang WenjieThe latest winner of China’s extremely popular TV singing competition Super Girl, Shang Wenjie, released her first musical offering on Wednesday.

The EP, entitled “A La Claire Fontaine,” collects four songs, including the French song Shang Wenjie sang for the 2006 Hollywood film “The Painted Veil.”

Huayi Brothers Music, the EP’s distributor, says that another 20,000 deluxe-packaged copies will also be available through online purchase from June 8.

Fans of Shang Wenjie worldwide will be able to buy the limited version soon at pconline.com.cn (in Chinese).

Shang Wenjie, a former French language major at Shanghai’s prestigious Fudan University, rose to national fame after taking the first prize in the 2006 Super Girl contest.
