Kate Hudson’s love ride

June 23rd, 2008

Kate Hudson Kate Hudson accompanied rumoured boyfriend Lance Armstrong to Canada at the weekend for a charity bike ride. The ‘Fool’s Gold’ actress and the cycling champion - who reportedly began dating last month - travelled to Ontario where Lance was joined by 40 local residents for the 117-kilometre race to help raise over $1 million on Saturday.

The Ride With Lance event was held to benefit cancer research at two hospitals, Grand River Hospital in Kitchener and Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. Before the race, Kate and Lance - who has battled testicular cancer in the past - spent a romantic few days together.

They had a mini vacation in Muskoka where Kate’s mother, Goldie Hawn, has a cabin. On Friday, Kate took her four-year-old son Ryder out for lunch and ice cream in the trendy Toronto Yorkville shopping district and was also spotted with Lance’s children, Luke, eight, and six-year-old twin girls Grace and Isabelle, while he prepared for the race. Later that night, the couple were seen canoodling in the lobby of their hotel. Read more »

Charlize and Stuart married in theory

September 17th, 2007

Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend are husband and wife - even if not legally. “I’m married,” Townsend told press this week. “I didn’t do a church wedding or anything, but we’re married. We’re husband and wife. We love each other and we want to spend out lives together,” the actor said of his nearly seven-year relationship with Theron, who he calls “the greatest woman I’ve ever met.” “We didn’t have a ceremony,” he added. “I don’t need a certificate or the state or the church to say otherwise. So no there’s no big official story on a wedding, but we are married… I consider her my wife and she considers me her husband.” During a dinner party at the Toronto film fest, the couple even showed off their rings - Theron fidgeted with hers as she shared a story about it and then grabbed Townsend’s hand to display a silver cross-shaped band on his ring finger.

Nelly Furtado cleans up at Juno Awards

April 3rd, 2007

Nelly Furtado Nelly Furtado Nelly Furtado stole the show at the Junos on Sunday, playing the roles of both host and big winner at the 2007 edition of the nation’s top music awards.

Furtado, 28, pocketed wins for best single, album, and for fan’s choice during the broadcast, adding to wins for artist and pop album of the year, which were presented at a gala dinner the night before.

Her 5 Junos, the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys, eclipsed Toronto punk rockers Billy Talent, who picked up a pair for best group and best rock album, for “Billy Talent II.”

Furtado’s “Loose” album has sold about 5 million copies, spawned four top 10 hits, including the Juno-winning “Promiscuous,” and earned her a Brit award for best international female solo artist.

She burst onto the scene seven years ago with her debut album “Whoa, Nelly!,” but found a cooler reception for her 2003 follow-up “Folklore.”

Other award recipients on Sunday were jacksoul for R&B soul recording, and rocker Tomi Swick for best new artist. Winners at the Saturday presentation included the Dixie Chicks for best international album, and dance-rock band Mobile, for new group of the year.

Rapper k-os went home empty-handed despite being nominated for five awards.

Canadian rocker-turned-producer Bob Rock was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame for his work with bands such as Metallica, Aerosmith, and Motley Crue. (Reuters)
