Emma Watson is to be the new face of Chanel perfume. The ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’ star has won a two-year contract worth million to promote Coco Mademoiselle.

The 18-year-old actress will take over from fellow British star Keira Knightley, 23, when her contract ends this summer. A source said: “Emma has been excitedly telling friends that she is going to be replacing Keira.” Emma landed the deal with the French fashion house after signing up with top modelling agency Storm in an attempt to branch out from acting.

Chanel has been preparing Emma for her new role by dressing her for film premieres and parties. A source said: “She has been slowly integrated into the Chanel brand. Once it became clear she is growing into a beautiful young woman and wears the Chanel brand so elegantly, they had to sign her up.

A lot of people may find Keira Knightley too skinny, but if you think about it this way you may change your mind; Tall, skinny chicks will, 99.8% of the time, never chunk out on you… they’ll pretty much look like that till they’re 60. Keira Knightley claims most of the women she auditions against are far smaller and skinnier than she is (as if that’s remotely possible). The Pirates of the Caribbean star says, “Weight is a big issue in Hollywood because I’m twice the size, height and everything else, of most of the girls who are going in to see the director for a part. When you realize that I am, at my size, one of the largest actresses there, you start to think, ‘I don’t think it’d be healthy for me to stay here much longer.’”

Keira Knightley has hit the red carpet for the UK premiere of her new film Atonement.

She was joined by co-stars James McAvoy and Vanessa Redgrave.

The film has already caused a frenzy at the Venice Film Festival, with critics tipping the actress for an Oscar nomination.

Directed by Joe Wright and adapted from a novel by Ian McEwan, it is being hailed as one of the strongest British films in years.

Knightley plays Cecilia Tallis, an upper-class beauty whose fledgling love affair with the housekeeper’s son (McAvoy) is destroyed by a tragic misunderstanding.

The film is in competition for the Golden Lion award for best film.
